As medical communicators, we need to be exceptionally organized. When we stay organized, we can manage our workload effectively, maximizing our productivity and reducing stress while delivering top-notch work to our teams or clients.
There are many ways to keep our work organized. We can break our projects up into smaller bits to avoid feeling overwhelmed, use project management tools to track our progress, and prioritize urgent tasks.
Establishing a well-organized routine and allocating specific time slots to various projects are strategies that greatly help. We may choose certain hours of the day or certain days of the week for different projects and tasks, depending on the number and type of projects.
I like to use anticipation to set up or modify my weekly routine. I tackle the more involved and pressing projects at the beginning of the week and reserve Fridays for lighter, long-term ones. In that way, I look forward to a more enjoyable task at the end of the week after managing the harder ones earlier in the week. For example, I recently decided to focus on my writing on Fridays because I find this activity especially exciting and relaxing. At times, I’ll need to adjust my routine to address unexpected issues, but this strategy helps me stay energized and motivated. And I can feel good about ticking off difficult tasks earlier in the week!
Keeping a consistent schedule and good habits in our writing or editing practices will help us stick to a routine and boost our productivity, while enjoying what we do.
